Hello, friends! First, Happy Mother's
Day Weekend to the Mom's out there! I hope you all get a moment's peace and
lots of thanks from your kids.
My design team, 6 Girls & a
Smoking Gun, have a couple cool things to present to you. First, we're one
designer will showcase her best techniques through her choice of project.
Debutting this month, is Irit with an amazing piece inspired by clocks. My
other talented friends were tasked this month to be inspired by Fabric and
Flowers.
IRIT SHALOM
Designer Showcase
I love when there’s a long list of
product. It usually means that many fun techniques will be used. Can you
believe how gorgeous this designer’s showcase piece is?!
With a 7 Gypsies distressed book complete with metal
handles, this mixed media masterpiece exudes vintage, classic and feminine all
in one.
This wall-worthy art started as a chipboard,
but is held together at the ‘hinges’ with twine and a 7 Gypsies metal handed
that Irit added. It is elaborately decorated with WOW! Embossing powders from Suzy
West’s Candy Counter Collection and the ever popular Metallic Copper. The
texture these embossing powders and Tando masks (polka dots) add to this art is
fantastic.
Inspired by the idea that “classic” is
timeless, Irit decorates the piece with vintage types of clocks from Tando’s
and metal charms and a handmade halo glass pebble embellishment. Irit embellished
two resin flowers, covering them with Clear embossing ink and WOW!’s Cotton
Candy and Copper embossing powders, and heated them to shrink into such
beauties. She created the a
Handmade Halo glass pebble for a touch of color with a clock and a burst of
flowers topoped with clear embossing powder.

Not here. At WOW! Our designers use
these amazing powders to create beyond the boundaries of “traditional”.
I love the girlie colors of this mini
album. Yet, there is nothing that takes away from the photos of Aly in uniform
and jumping the hurdles. The powders enhance the impeccable pages. Sherrie is planning
on using the Gold Vellum area to list Aly’s best times and she’ll accent the
page with Sierra Sunrise.
The cool thing is that one little jar
of powder is going to last more than the 3-month (or longer) term it’ll be for
Sherrie to track Aly’s track career. She can use these powders on so much!

ERIKA TAYLOR
Erika has done it again. Remember the dress form she made for us last month? Well, here’s the doll that’s wearing another ET Designer gown! The detail work Erika puts into her designs is the secret to making her creations come to life. I am “WOW-ed” by the way she uses embossing powders to create the bodice, dress, and parts of the wings. The doll is made from Grunge paper and Erika created the rest from paper, fabric and tulle

AMY
PRIOR
Amy’s work also
layers on details for a fabulous finish. Look how many ways she uses fabric in
both masculine and feminine cards! You must hear her inspiration. I love the
thought process of designers. It sounds so simple…but the results are nothing
less than stellar.
Birthday
Balloons Card: “I had the idea
to cut these gorgeous hearts out the minute I received the stamp set and I
think the bright colours of the Fabric background layers, work perfectly with
the incredible Embossing Powders from WOW! The Hot Pink background was a very
strong contrast so I have softened that down a bit by using the Gratitude Stamp
Squiggly line over and over again with some White Opaque Powder.”

Embossing Powders used: Bright Opaque White, Cotton Candy, Magenta.

Fathers
Day Card: “This masculine
card could be used for any ccasion thanks to the generic heading. The
Kaisercraft Hunt & Gather Collection worked so well with the WOW Earthtone
Colours and for the spotted effect of the Ultra High, I have simply sprinkled
bits of powders over the surface as I was heating. It is such a cool effect!

Embossing Powders Used: Earthtone Blueberry, Earthtone Nutmeg, Ultra High
Copper.

Happy Birthday Card:
“I just adore how beautiful this card has turned out. This collection from
Melissa Frances is so shabby chic and worked well with the WOW Opaque Bright
White Powder. The Cheesecloth has had a coat of Pink ink that was then rinsed
off. After that was dry a rough layer of the white powder was added to the
entire surface of the fabric as well as the tips of all the petals of each
flower. The flowers were all just white Mulberry Flowers and I just love the
freedom to colour them myself.”

Anne Brown
Anne has designed and brought us an original idea for a wonderful “treasure box”. It’s perfect for teen girls or anyone else to hold pictures and other keepsakes that we tend to hoard. The picture is a digi stamp that Anne colored with Copic markers. She used lots of Metallic Gold Rich Pale embossing powder (on the larger paper doily, the edges of the image, the chipboard letters and the pocket watch case). She decorated the lid with ribbon, paper flowers, bling, buttons, glitter and lace.
JEN
DEAL
To wrap up today’s team blog; let me show you what I hoard. They COULD
fit into that beautiful treasure box Anne made, but I went with practical
plastic for the numerous iPhone cases in my collection. Yup, I change iPhone
cases like socks.
The box came together in a fairly simple way. A bit of paper and
lace wrapped around the exterior and cut to fit the top. I used embossing
powder on the button center of my hand-sew flower and I rimmed the top edges of
the lid with powder.
